Cinnamon is obtained from the bark of tropical trees which are scientifically called Cinnamomum. Cinnamon is harvested by cutting the stems of the cinnamon tree. The inner bar of the stem is peeled off and the woody part is removed. 

When dries, it forms strips that tend to curl afterward and turn into sticks called cinnamon sticks. To obtain the cinnamon powder, these sticks can be ground.
